MED-RIDE PROGRAM
Transportation is available to medical appointments outside the county for ambulatory elders 60 years old or older who reside in Franklin County. The program will also transport elders who are in need of radiation, dialysis or chemotherapy treatments within Franklin County. Volunteer drivers provide the transportation using their own vehicles. For more information, call our office. If you would like to schedule a ride, please call MaryAnn at 772-1517 ext. 1.
MASSHEALTH TRANSPORTATION
The FRTA contracts with the Department of Medical Assistance (DMA) to provide eligible MassHealth (Medicaid) recipients with transportation to medical appointments. A Prescription for Transportation (PT-1) Form must be filled out by a MassHealth provider and submitted to DMA on your behalf. The FRTA does not determine eligibility. Only if, and when, you are deemed eligible for transportation services by MassHealth is our office notified. The FRTA must have at least 3 business days to set up your transportation. For more information, please contact MassHealth at 1-800-841-2900.
RIDE-SHARE TRANSPORTATION
This program was established to assist eligible Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) recipients who are in need of finding reliable rides to further their education and enhance their vocation skills. The FRTA contract with DTA to provide transportation to Adult Literacy Programs, Community Colleges and other Employment Service programs. To see if you qualify, contact your DTA caseworker or call the FRTA at 774-2262 ext. 105.
DEMAND RESPONSE SERVICE
Demand Response transportation is a curb to curb service offered to elders 60 years old or older, eligible Franklin County Home Care Corp. consumers, nursing home residents or Veterans with a disability rating of 70% or greater. Days, hours of operations, fares and service will vary depending on the town you reside in and differ from town to town. We may not be able to provide "subscription" or "ongoing" transportation since some of our service areas have limited capacity on their vehicles and may not operate Monday through Friday.
The FRTA requires that you complete an application for Demand Response service and submit it to our office. Contact Heidi at 774-2262 ext. 103 if you would like an application sent to you.
Also under our demand response service, the FRTA provides Veterans Transportation on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Veterans in need of accessing Veteran facilities and hospitals. If you are a Veteran and would like to access the Veterans transportation, please call Kuzmeskus at 413-863-2595 Ext. 15.
ADA PARATRANSIT SERVICE
The FRTA's ADA Paratransit Services are for disabled individuals who are available within 3/4 mile of our fixed route corridor and cannot navigate or access our fixed route service due to their disability. Transportation is provided from your point of origin to your destination point and is available only when our regular fixed route buses operate (please refer to the attached fixed route schedule for our sevice area and route times).
The fact that accessing the fixed route is difficult, inconvenient or does not travel near or to your home or point of destination is not sufficient grounds for eligibility.
ADA service is available on a "next day basis", but costs twice the fare amount of our regular fixed route service. Please contact our office at (413) 774-2262 ext.103 if you would like an application sent to you.
Persons wishing to communicate with the FRTA using a TTY should call our main number at (413) 774-2262. Please allow time to set up our machine.
All information relative to FRTA services are available by request in alternative forms such as Braille, cassette tape and large print formats.
